This qualification is suitable for all persons and will provide an understanding of safeguarding which can be used in a workplace, activity group or any instance where a person comes into contact with children or adults at risk.
The qualification provides learners with the knowledge to identify a safeguarding concern, listen and appropriately record a disclosure, and report to the appropriate person.
Course Outline
A range of subjects are covered including:
- Be aware of Safeguarding legislation and guidance
- Be aware of key safeguarding roles
- Be aware of different kinds of abuse
- Be aware of signs and indicators of abuse and neglect
- Know what action to take if a safeguarding concern arises
Course Duration
This course runs over a minimum of 4 contact hours in the classroom (half day)
Numbers
A maximum of 16 students can be accommodated on this course and all candidates must be a minimum of 14 years or over to qualify.
Assessment
A range of methods are used, including, practical and questioning (open and multiple-choice).
Certification
Level 1 Award in Awareness of Safeguarding

The cost of this course is £40 per delegate, and includes a manual and certification.
This course has been approved by British Canoeing (BC) as an appropriate safegaurding course for all coaches and leaders. BC have announced that all coaches and leaders must maintain a safeguarding qualification in order to maintain their coach and leader status.
